Mississauga, Ontario--(Newsfile Corp. - September 14, 2016) - Pioneering Technology Corporation (TSXV: PTE) (OTC: PTEFF), ("Pioneering" or the "Company"), a technology company and North America's leader in cooking fire prevention technologies and products is very pleased to announce today that Massachusetts' Worcester Fire Department received a $173,131 USD Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant to support the department's cooking fire prevention program for the Worcester Housing Authority (WHA).

The announcement was made last Friday in Washington DC by Congressman James P. McGovern and Senator's Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey who thanked the Federal Emergency Management Agency for providing the funding. These competitive grant programs are administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA).

The Worcester Fire Department is working with the Worcester Housing Authority to implement a cooking fire education and prevention program at the four WHA apartment towers. The towers have 759 units and house 862 elderly residents (86% of those residents being disabled). The fire department will use the funds to equip all 759 apartment units with Pioneering's SmartBurners and to train WHA staff and educate their residents.

Pioneering CEO Kevin Callahan said, "We take great pride in helping protect seniors, especially those with disabilities, so that they can live independently longer and with dignity. Helping people live independently longer delivers not only a better quality of life but also saves the government and taxpayers billions of dollars annually."

According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking equipment is involved in 48% of all household fire in the United States and seniors and those with disabilities are at significantly higher risk. Cooking is the second leading reason that seniors are institutionalized after falls. Pioneering's SmartBurner with its patented temperature limiting control (TLC) technology helps prevent cooking fires before they start. This technology has now been installed on over 150,000 multi-residential stovetops (many of them in senior's facilities) throughout North America with 100% efficacy (zero reported cooking fires).
