Turkiye Launches Met-Up, a Groundbreaking AR Application for Digitalized Training Materials

Houston, Texas--(Newsfile Corp. - August 8, 2023) -  The Vocational and Technical Education Application Platform (MET-UP), an initiative by the Turkish Ministry of National Education, digitizes learning resources for both students and instructors in vocational education.

The MET-UP project facilitates the display of hyper-realistic 3D models essential in technical education, enabling a comprehensive understanding of all material layers without any additional technology investment. This project aligns with Turkiye's objective to enhance educational equality via digitalization.

In the United States, labor dynamics such as The Great Resignation and The Great Shuffle have led to approximately 50 million employees leaving their jobs in 2022. Moody's projections indicate that the decreasing share of the working-age US population may result in persistent labor shortages.

Concurrently, the shift in companies' and countries' approaches to trade and supply due to the pandemic intensifies the competition in the global trade race.

Ali Kılıçlıoğlu, Turkiye's Houston-based Education Attaché, stated that vocational education has become crucial for developed economies to withstand and thrive in this environment. He said: "The significance of a skilled technical workforce will continue to rise in the future. Technological advances in vocational and technical education could help address labor shortages and offer countries a competitive edge."

MET-UP features digital twins accurately modelled and realistically functioning in areas such as aircraft maintenance, renewable energy technologies, electrical-electronics, machinery and design technologies, and motor vehicles. Users can interact with 3D models using virtual reality technology. The application, which simulates the assembly and disassembly of 3D models with lifelike animations in AR mode, eradicates the boundaries between physical and virtual realms in vocational education.

According to the US Chamber of Commerce, technical education could foster entrepreneurship. Ali Kılıçlıoğlu observed that, as per research conducted in the USA, vocational education enhances employability and earnings. Kılıçoğlu commented, "A scientific article examining the period 2016-2023 shows that AR-assisted education significantly improves students' learning outcomes compared to traditional methods. We are confident that the MET-UP project will redefine vocational education, making learning processes straightforward, accessible, and enjoyable."

Ali Kılıçlıoğlu also shared MET-UP's ambitions of becoming a diplomatic tool for Turkiye, stating: "Our application will enable educators, trainers, and users worldwide to create interactive and immersive AR and XR vocational training lessons. Furthermore, MET-UP will be available free of charge to vocational and technical education schools in the USA and globally."

MET-UP signifies a stride towards bolstering the value of vocational education and enhancing Turkiye's prominence in digital education. The application underscores Turkiye's dedication to nurturing skilled and well-equipped individuals for the future technical workforce.
