Raúl Rocha Cantú, who serves as the Consul of Guatemala in the State of Mexico, mentioned that he had the honor of being part of this forum led by Manuel Espino, which brought together representatives from the US Congress and the Guatemalan industry to work towards shared objectives. These objectives include promoting nearshoring (bringing production closer to the consumer territory) and curbing irregular migration.

The event took place on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. Among the topics discussed were promoting economic cooperation between the two nations and addressing the issue of irregular migration through Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the United States to Guatemala.

"Grateful for the opportunity to meet with Vicente Gonzalez Jr, congressman from Texas, and design strategies on how the Port of Matamoros can contribute to economic benefits for both the United States and Mexico. We also discussed the most efficient ways on how the current energy channels can expand in the region," added Rocha Cantú.

Other issues analyzed at the Grown Forum 2023 included "improving living conditions in Latin America by strengthening its business communities to minimize irregular migration," mentioned the Consul of Guatemala in the State of Mexico.

Grow Forum 2023

During the Grow 2023 Forum, Guatemalan entrepreneurs recognized the importance of creating jobs so that all young people can join the workforce.

The Grow 2023 Forum, which translates to "Generating Opportunities for Wealth-Creation" in English, is the first of its kind between both countries and was considered a success as it managed to increase interest in trade and investment with Guatemala, as well as the interest of political leaders in these topics.

The forum was attended by business leaders from Guatemala and important representatives from the Senate and the House of Representatives, including senators Bill Cassidy (Louisiana), Vicente Gonzalez (Texas), Robert B. Aderholt (Alabama), among others, and the participation of political leaders from the United States was also bipartisan, with members from both the Democratic and Republican parties attending.
