Vancouver, British Columbia--(Newsfile Corp. - October 18, 2022) - Park-Kit, the Canada-based parking and lighting system provider, has unveiled its technology-driven pathway towards reducing the cost of parking guidance. The announcement of the new Park-Kit system, which operates across WiFi and integrates open-source software, comes as the firm sets out its intentions to modernize the industry.
The widespread digitization seen across numerous sectors has been accelerated by the pandemic, and Park-Kit is setting out to ensure that parking guidance does not get left behind in this transition. Currently, running and maintaining a garage is a costly process, with the Department of Energy estimating that businesses spend more than $6 billion every year on lighting for parking garages and lots.
Senior officials from Park-Kit highlight that one of the cost-saving elements of their system is their use of LED lights, as opposed to more traditional HID and fluorescent lamps. On average, a garage light fixture that is upgraded with an LED light at around 50W or less can save the garage owner roughly $120 per year in energy costs. If a garage has 250 lights, this adds up to around $30,000 in yearly savings.
In addition to its integration of LEDs, the Park-Kit system provides a more streamlined way for drivers to locate and keep tabs on their parking space. The system involves the installation of a WiFi-enabled light fixture with 6 cameras attached that covers 6 parking spaces, 3 on each side of the driving aisle. It has a power source that can communicate with all the other light sources in the garage and dim them when there is no movement. Park-Kit's software enables drivers to clearly see which spaces are free through a flashing indicator system, attached to the light, and once they have parked, their license plate is read and the customer receives a text message letting them know when they arrived and where they have left their car.
By being able to pay for the space through the accompanying Park-Kit app, customers no longer need to worry about parking overtime or lining up to pay at a kiosk via credit card. Searching for parking ends up costing Americans $73 billion per year, and drivers spend an average of seventeen hours each year looking for parking - and carbon monoxide emissions are greatly cut. Through its new system, Park-Kit is aiming to significantly reduce these figures.
As part of its announcement, the Park-Kit team underlines that the company has partnered with installation providers, meaning they can offer a turn-key solution for business-owners that need to upgrade their entire parking garage system.
"We're hugely excited to have launched our new Park-Kit parking guidance system, which will prevent businesses from having to pay exorbitant amounts in order to maintain a safe and effective parking garage. We believe our tech-based lighting and guidance model marks an important shift in the industry as it evolves in the direction of digitization and convenience," concludes Anthony Holland, Founder of Park-Kit.
