Guelph, Ontario--(Newsfile Corp. - September 9, 2015) - Dr. Gene Shelp, President and CEO of ENPAR Technologies Inc. (TSXV: ENP) ("ENPAR" or "the Company"), is very pleased to announce that ENPAR's exclusive Indian licensee, Fontus Water Pvt. Ltd. has completed the first commercial sale of the Company's Electro-static Deionization (ESD) CapDI unit in India.
The unit was purchased by leading Information Technology solutions provider Infosys. With very promising results obtained through successful testing of the novel technology at two campuses, Infosys had ordered the 14-cell commercial ESD unit to be used for the treatment of ground water. The purified water produced by the ESD will be utilized as drinking water as well as other potable water applications. The unit will be installed at one of Infosys' campuses in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
With the completion of this sale, Fontus Water Pte, Ltd has achieved its first milestone through the official introduction of the innovative ESD technology into the Indian Market. Fontus is currently in the process of finalizing several other commercial sales of the ESD product line of varying capacities to customers in both the public and private sectors.
The ESD technology is a state-of-the-art method for removing dissolved salts from groundwater, brackish and waste water using low pressure electro-chemical separation of the charged contaminants. The highly innovative ESD technology does not necessitate high pressure or heavy chemical dosing requirements for operation or maintenance. As a result, the ESD facilitates high efficiency water treatment by consuming only a third of the energy required by existing technologies such as Reverse Osmosis (RO). RO water treatment involves high energy consumption (3-5 kWh/m3) due to high pressure requirements, coupled with heavy chemical dosage for cleaning and protecting the membranes. The combination of energy and chemical consumption translate into very high overall operational expenses. In contrast, the ESD technology consumes only about one-third of the energy (1-2 kWh/m3) while requiring minimal chemical addition. The ESD also offers long operational life time of 7-10 years (compared to less than five years for RO membranes). In addition, the ESD technology is capable of achieving greater than 90% product water recovery while maintaining high salt removal efficiencies compared to water recoveries in the range of 40 — 60% typically seen with RO.
ENPAR and Fontus Water have been working closely for the past year on penetrating India and other selected Asian markets. Established in the year 2000, Fontus Water Pvt. Ltd. offers complete water and wastewater management solutions to the institutional, industrial and rural water markets. As a member of the Earth Water Group, Fontus Water is one of India's fastest growing water solutions providers with over 2,000 installations, deep local roots (across 36 cities throughout India) and a wide portfolio of customers (from automotive to power to commercial buildings). Fontus has licensed ENPAR's CapDI technology and has converted it into a product that can be sold to municipal, industrial and commercial clients throughout India and in other selected markets in Asia. ENPAR and Fontus signed an agreement in 2014 whereby Fontus has been awarded specific geographical distribution rights.
Dr. Shelp commented, "Management and the Board of Directors of ENPAR believe that this initial commercial sale of the CapDI product in India will lead to many near-term sales in that part of the world. This commercial sale is a huge step in ENPAR's ability to gain traction in the Asian water market. ENPAR is extremely excited at the prospect of many near term commercial sales and further market penetration through our partner, Fontus Water."
