Tokyo, Japan--(Newsfile Corp. - August 18, 2015) - Aqua Power Systems Inc. (OTCQB: APSI) (the "Company") is pleased to discuss advancements made to its mission statement and provide additional information regarding its technology advantages following its recent 100% acquisition of Aqua Power System Japan Kabushiki Kaisha ("Aqua Power Japan"), a company specializing in the development, manufacturing, and commercialization of patented water activated magnesium air fuel cell technologies for generating safe, green, reliable and inexpensive off-grid electricity.  Aqua Power System Japan is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company.

"The recent acquisition of Aqua Power Japan has given us the capability to control all future RMAF magnesium air fuel cell technologies advancements, commercial product development, and manufacturing," commented Tadashi Ishikawa, President of Aqua Power Systems Inc.  "As the sole owner of the underlying technology patents and other intellectual property, our expanded mission now encompasses all elements of consumer and industrial technology development and design, in addition to distribution and marketing of finished products utilizing the water activated RMAF magnesium air fuel cell technologies."

Aqua Power System Japan has had considerable success marketing and distributing RMAF technology in Japan, selling more than 8 million water-activated "NoPoPo" RMAF 1.5V AA batteries in Japan and China since 2009.  The NoPoPo battery can power LED flashlights, mini lanterns and portable radios and have an incredibly long shelf life of over 20 years (dry cell batteries have less than three years).  The NoPoPo battery gained national recognition during power outages after the devastating Japanese earthquake and tsunamis in 2011.  The disaster created a massive demand for mobile power solutions that were cost effective and easily deployable.

These early developments saw Aqua Power Japan getting products to market quicker and overcome a number of significant technical hurdles that resulted in 16 patents and patents-pending to date relating to the materials and processes that enable water powered batteries and magnesium powered fuel cells. These hurdles included corrosion, hydrogen inhibition and release (HI) in sealed structures, and on/off activation.

In the near future, APSI and Aqua Power System Japan intend to expand business into new markets with new consumer and industrial products that can generate clean electricity on-demand taking full benefit of the significant commercial, safety, and environmental advantages of the unique RMAF fuel cell technology.

What makes APSI's patented RMAF technology unique?

A fuel cell is a device that converts the chemical energy from a fuel into electricity by way of a chemical reaction with oxygen or another oxidizing agent.  In the case of APSI, the fuel is magnesium, one of the most abundant elements on earth.  Every fuel cell which generates electricity by a chemical reaction (as opposed to combustion) also requires an electrolyte.  The RMAF electrolyte (saltwater) carries electrically charged particles from one electrode to the other.

Magnesium-air fuel cell technology, initially discovered in the 1960s, remained a classroom curiosity for years due to the energy consuming formation of hydrogen (reduced power output and volatility) during electrolysis.  It is this hydrogen buildup that has prevented the commercialization of the technology until recent breakthroughs.   As a result of several of its patent protected innovations and other intellectual property, APSI is one of the first and only companies to have successfully commercialized this form of power generation.

- RMAF Hydrogen Prevention

The Realistic Magnesium Air Fuel System (RMAF) system inhibits hydrogen buildup through a series of events occurring concurrently.  Hydrogen inhibition starts with the application of an internal flow-back duct that returns the hydrogen to the water inside the cell.  In addition, hydrogen buildup is further inhibited through the introduction of a small percentage of calcium to the magnesium bar.

- RMAF Product Design

Another innovation that causes hydrogen inhibition is the design of the product itself.   The correct distance between the Anode (magnesium bar) and the Cathode (special film) — this varies from product to product and is arrived at through extensive testing during the product development — this is why each product design has been submitted to the patent office protecting the companies IP.  (There is no formula that can generally be applied (physical or chemical) to derive this component).

- Magnesium Waste

The other bit of unique intellectual property is the ability to keep the magnesium sediment (magnesium oxide) flat so it does not impact on the power generated.  If this did not occur then the sediment would pile vertically (cone shaped) inside the product, causing current interruption.

These innovations combine to give Realistic Magnesium Air Fuel System (RMAF) technology significant benefits over traditional fuel cells and batteries, including:
  • Indefinite shelf life - ideal for long-term storage for emergency use;
  • Extremely lightweight and easily transported;
  • Totally green - recyclable, no toxic emissions;
  • Low cost - much lower cost compared to hydrogen and zinc-air fuel cells;
  • Safe - no risk of overheating or exploding, as shown in Li-ion fuel cells;
  • Indefinitely refuelable; and
  • Easily expandable for greater power generation.
ABOUT AQUA POWER SYSTEMS, INC.

Aqua Power Systems, Inc. (APSI), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Aqua Power System Japan Kabushiki Kaisha (Aqua Power Japan), is a developer, distributor, and marketer of magnesium air fuel cell products.  Founded in 2004 by Tadashi Ishikawa, President of APSI, Aqua Power Japan has successfully commercialized magnesium air fuel cells for generating safe, green, reliable and inexpensive off-grid electricity.

Aqua Power Japan's patented (and patent-pending) Realistic Magnesium Air Fuel System ("RMAF") technology causes electricity to be generated from the chemical reaction of the combination of magnesium, oxygen (air), and a saltwater electrolyte.  RMAF powered applications can be refueled using its proprietary lightweight magnesium rods, which fuel the chemical reaction.  RMAF fuel cells have a long shelf, are lightweight, transportable, environmentally friendly, safe and scalable for greater power generation.  Aqua Power Japan has aggressively patented (16 patents and patents-pending to date) and protects its intellectual property in Japan and internationally.

Aqua Power Japan's fuel cell technology can be applied to many applications requiring remote power, including emergency preparedness and disaster relief, outdoor recreation, industry (mining, oil and gas, forestry), military, marine (saltwater environments), and automotive opportunities (main drive, electrical subsystems, and backup systems).

Aqua Power Japan has been generating revenue since its initial products were launched in 2009 in Japan.  These products included a water-activated AA battery (more than 8 million sold to date), mini-LED flashlights, and portable radios.  Aqua Power Japan products gained national attention in Japan following the earthquake and tsunami that devastated many parts of the country in 2011.
