California-based NanoBiologics is a R&D technology and processing company that has pioneered proprietary techniques, referred to as NanoBlended™ and NanoEnhanced™, to process cannabis oil and isolates down to a size range under 80 nanometers in size.
Let's try to visualize the size of a "nano", which is defined as one-billionth of a meter. There are 25.4 million nanometers in one inch. A human hair is approximately 80,000-100,000 nanometers wide.
The company encapsulates the resulting molecules within a "water-jacket", which are thoroughly tested and certified by a highly respected ISO 17025 accredited cannabis specific lab in the United States.
One of the biggest challenges facing the industry is stabilizing cannabis oil or isolates in a water matrix, as cannabinoids, like all oils, are poorly soluble in water. Utilizing NanoBiologics technology, nano cannabinoid molecules become 100% water compatible, allowing for multiple applications within the hemp and cannabis industries, including infusion into beverages and edibles. The smaller the droplet size the more efficient the emulsion is for uptake by the human body. Cellular uptake for water jacketed nano cannabinoids approaches 100% as opposed to less than 50% for all other forms of intake, for example, inhalation delivery such as smoking, oral ingestion such as edibles, and intra-oral delivery such as sprays.
Nano cannabinoid infused products can also be accurately dosed to a fraction of a milligram and have a faster onset with less side effects. They are also more cost effective than oils or isolates in formulating infused products as less cannabinoids are required in the end products.
Visually, the smaller the particulate the more transparent the emulsion becomes, making them ideal for infusion in water products. As nano cannabinoids have no flavor or odor, they overcome some of the biggest challenges in the industry.
Using nanosized cannabinoids would reduce the market for these overly sweet edibles, an obvious safety benefit, overcoming many of the regulatory concerns.
Cannabinoids are becoming more recognized as a valuable option in the treatment of pain and other conditions.
Constellation Brands, the owner of brands such as Corona and Kim Crawford Wines, recently increased its stake in Canopy Growth, investing an additional US$4 billion. In August, Molson Coors partnered with Canadian cannabis producer The Hydropothecary Corporation, to develop "non-alcoholic, cannabis-infused beverages for the Canadian market following legalisation".
Bruce Leitch, President, stated: "The demand for health and wellness based CBD infused beverages is exploding globally. The first company that delivers a flavorless, odorless highly effective product with proven medical benefits will be an industry leader in the category. Many jurisdictions, including Canada and California do not allow cannabis in alcoholic beverages. We intend to initially focus on non-alcoholic and functional beverages, and cosmetics, where we see terrific growth opportunities."
NanoBiologics' technology has overcome the technical challenges associated with oil/water emulsions and is producing clear nano emulsions. NanoPeak is preparing to launch in Canada and is seeking strategic partnerships.
NanoPeak is currently raising gross proceeds of up to $1,000,000 through a non-brokered private placement of up to 10,000,000 units priced at $0.10 per unit, with each unit consisting of one share and one warrant with the warrant exercisable at $0.25 for 24 months, subject to an acceleration clause.
