On January 12, 2021, Mimecast announced that it was informed by Microsoft that a Mimecast product was hacked by a "sophisticated threat actor." Mimecast provides the product to Microsoft customers to "authenticate Mimecast Sync and Recover, Continuity Monitor, and IEP products to Microsoft 365 Exchange Web Services." Mimecast stated that about 10% of its customers use the connection that was targeted in the attack.

On this news, Mimecast's shares are trading at approximately $44.38 per share, down over 13%, during trading hours on January 12, 2021.
