Northern Graphite COO Kirsty Liddicoat initially chose to study geology because she could go camping! After her first co-op work she realized that she I loved that every day was different, and there were challenges beyond the normal work – such as dealing with extreme weather. With a MBA, a M. Mining ENG., and a B. SC. (Hons) Geology, her career, that started in Australia, has taken her to a variety of countries. Kirsty says she loves working in mining because it gives her “the ability to create value and change people’s lives in the communities where we work while enabling the green transition.”

It's National Mining Week. Teresa Toscani, General Manager of Northern's Lac des Iles mine in Quebec shares why she loves working in this industry. Mining is a fascinating career where you can grow to your full potential and make a positive impact because what counts in life is the impact we have on people’s lives; the places we improve day to day and the footprint we leave on the planet. Over the 12+ years of my mining career I have been a Procurement Agent, Corporate Buyer, Category Specialist, Procurement Excellence Lead and General Manager while also being a wife, soccer mom & university student. Mining has introduced me to new places, interesting people and opportunities that have challenged me to evolve. Mining is a fast changing environment striving towards excellence while empowering people to extraordinary performance. Being part of that change is what gets me up each morning with determination & energy to face whatever my day has to offer me. That’s why I love working in Mining.

This is a very good interview of all the key attributes of being a Graphite miner in this province. As the only producer of Graphite in North America, in Quebec for over 30 years we are proud to be part of the Quebec Strategy for Critical minerals. Our partnership with MERN is strong and we are blessed with the support of the government as we continue to invest together in our expansion strategy. Quebec Rocks! 💡 The US has imposed tariff increases on #electricvehicle and #lithiumion battery imports from China and also introduced new duties on natural #graphite, permanent magnets and certain other #criticalminerals imports.   The White House said the steep tariffs are aimed at curbing China’s “unfair trade practices” and “artificially low-priced” exports from flooding its market. ➡️ What do the tariffs mean for #battery production? ➡️ Why does the US want to hike EV tariffs? ➡️ What are the implications across the supply chain? Benchmark experts have analysed the announcement on Benchmark Source - read more via the link below. 📅 Government policies for the #energytransition will be centre stage at Giga USA in Washington DC on 11-13 June.   Join Benchmark and leaders from government, industry and finance to be at the heart of the discussion - https://lnkd.in/e_TjiiNa

#China is preparing a new #regulation of #batteryproduction in order to consolidate the industry. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology published a corresponding draft last week. Innovation and environmental protection are being used as levers. ⚠️ The core aspects:  * Factory projects that serve solely to increase production capacity are to be made more difficult to implement.  * Factories built on farmland or in ecological zones are to be shut down or placed under strict control and gradually removed. * Lithium-ion battery companies must spend at least 3% of turnover on research and development.  * Increase the energy efficiency of production along the entire battery value chain. * The quality of the batteries produced is to be improved. The draft specifies numerous KPIs for this purpose. 🤔 The proposed regulation will primarily hit small and low-tech companies. The large battery cell manufacturers like CATL, BYD and CALB will emerge stronger from this consolidation. 📈 The Chinese battery industry is currently going through a tough consolidation phase. The China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance forecasts that the production #capacity for lithium-ion batteries in China is expected to exceed 3,000 GWh by 2025. ⚡ However, #battery demand has grown less strongly than anticipated. The factory #utilisation rate has fallen to 40%. The price war is correspondingly tough. Battery prices in China have halved compared to last year. This poses massive economic challenges for the entire battery value chain. 👉 Useful information: * MIIT draft regulation: https://lnkd.in/eTBqM82C * Reuters article: https://lnkd.in/eJ4RjjhK
