Educating the next generation of makeup artists and special effects makeup artists since 2010, L Makeup Institute opened its Dallas Fort Worth, Texas campus in 2020. Our makeup courses and programs are a deep study in makeup artistry and go well beyond basic beauty and bridal makeup. Many dream of becoming an elite makeup artist; LMI fulfills that need by preparing you to work immediately upon graduating in the entertainment, fashion, film, production, freelance, salon, and cosmetic industries.
According to bls.gov, Texas is ranked fifth among the top paying states and highest employment levels for Makeup Artists. Career opportunities are endless, and there is no cosmetology licensing requirement to work as a makeup artist in the state of Texas.

Bright and welcoming, our Branch Campus is centrally located at 112 State Street, Southlake, TX 76092, inside Southlake Town Square in the heart of the Dallas • Fort Worth • Plano Metroplex. Our beautiful setting carries the charm and character of a true Town Square. Students can gather around the many outdoor sitting areas, parks, and cafes that are just a quick stroll away during downtime.
This 15,000 square foot campus has all the equipment and technology required for makeup artistry and special effects educational facility. Our Dallas Fort Worth, Texas campus boasts ten separate classrooms, including a special effects lab, a teacher’s lounge, administrative offices, and a staff training room. Rounding out the campus, students enjoy convenient access to an expansive student lounge, student store, and library.

We believe the best way to prepare for a career as a professional makeup artist or special effects artist is daily, in-person, hands-on instruction with the personal guidance of qualified instructors. To accomplish this, how the facility is designed and equipped is also essential in supporting the curriculum delivery. Specialized equipment and custom-made ovens for special FX and character makeup classes. Professionally designed lighting capture colors realistically, perfect for color matching beauty and airbrush makeup. HDTVs and video cameras project live instructor demos, a dispensary to clean makeup brushes and body forms, and a professionally lit photography studio to capture student work. Every detail is thought through to support your journey to become a professional makeup artist, FX artist, or advance your career.

Curriculum
Our curriculum is at the heart of our student’s success.
Our proprietary curriculum guides students through the professional principles of makeup artistry and SFX makeup in a culture that supports students expressing themselves through their work. Developed by our Founder Lissette Waugh, a 28-year professional makeup artist and educator, the LMI curriculum is recognized as meeting professional industry standards by employers, industry professionals, our Program Advisory Committee and Accreditation Agency. Educators deliver the curriculum through the VAK method (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic), including daily live instructor demos, audio-visual aids, and presentations to better connect with all types of learners. There is a heavy emphasis on lab and practical exercises, so students start working with products on day one. Guest Makeup Artists also frequent the Dallas, Texas, campus to provide their unique perspectives and experience.
