European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Matthias Maurer was born in Sankt Wendel (Saarland), Germany. He is currently living, working and cooking on board the International Space Station for his first space mission, Cosmic Kiss.

The name and patch of Matthias' mission are a declaration of love for space. He wants to share this love with people on Earth through the universal languages of music and food.

Matthias says that good food is especially important for astronauts on long space missions, not only in terms of physical health, but also for mental well-being. Although food cannot be prepared in the same way in orbit, he looks forward to sharing a special meal with music and space lovers around the world.

Tim Mälzer created the dish that Matthias Maurer will eat together with the rest of the world in February. He cooked the dish on the ESA premises and then sealed it in food boxes so that it could be sent to the ISS.v

"If you had told me 1.5 years ago, 'You're going to cook a dish that will really be eaten on a space station' (...), I would have said, 'Yeah, sure, it's on you'. And now it's really happening, that's a great feeling!"

David Garrett is one of the most famous and best violinists in the world. He plays the great violin concertos with leading international conductors and orchestras, and together with his band he thrills fans with his crossover programmes.

Together with the hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, David has recorded the anthem for the BigCityBeats Club Kitchen. He plays the solo violin part.
