As a former front-end engineer, I believe we are heading the end of the era where UIs primarily are "showing a list of links as a menu and selecting one". I like to think the future of front-end will increasingly focus on analytical visualisations and leveraging the multimodal advancements of LLMs. Audio, video, image, and text could be the primary inputs for apps. Why I think this way is mainly based on the unpredictability of users in LLM-based apps. Traditional menu and selection-based UIs depend on an expected happy path with some edge case handling. Most GenAI applications today don't require knowing the user's intention in advance. But, there are significant challenges to my vision: 🧑🏻💻 User Familiarity and Comfort: Many users are used to traditional menu-based UIs. Shifting away from this familiar paradigm won't be easy. 🦻#Accessibility: Non-traditional inputs can introduce complexity. Not all users might have the skills or tools to interact with new forms of UIs. 💰Technological Constraints and Cost: While #LLMs and advanced input methods are powerful, they are also resource-intensive and expensive. I'd like to read your thoughts on the future of #UI design and #multimodal advancements. Let's discuss it! #UI #UX #LLM #AI #FrontEnd #FutureTech #Innovation #UserExperience #MultimodalAI #TechTrends

I just returned from Foundry #NextCIO, where Nadav Mordechai and I hosted an insightful session with the next wave of CIOs. I must say that excitement around GenAI was everywhere. It's a refreshing shift from the traditional narrative that enterprises drag their feet in adopting new tech. Based on my chat with these leaders, here’s why it often seems this way: 1. Risk Management: Enterprises are inherently cautious, ensuring new tech is secure, compliant, and non-disruptive. 2. Integration Complexity: Integrating generative AI with legacy systems is no joke. It requires careful planning and execution. 3. Cost Justification: The initial investment can be significant, and proving ROI takes time. 4. Skills Gap: There’s a shortage of in-house expertise to deploy and manage these advanced solutions. 5. Change Management: Adopting AI means changing processes and upskilling staff, which naturally takes time. The passion and forward-thinking mindset I witnessed is promising. Excited to see how this will reshape the enterprise landscape. #AI #EnterpriseTech #DigitalTransformation #NextCIO

What might digital transformation look like in the era of Generative AI? A while ago it started as a pretty broad discussion, which Leon Gauhman and Gabriel O'Brien then turned into a full-length white paper outlining our current thinking on the technological and business aspects of GenAi in the context of Business Productivity (you know I’m obsessed), Cost savings, and using GenAI to generate new revenue streams. So, when I had the chance to share some of our thoughts with the NextCIO cohort, I could not refuse (especially with Christelle Heikkila in support!). We explored how organisations can identify unproductive processes, discussed strategies for identifying areas ripe for GenAI implementation, and shared insights on how the next generation of CIOs and CTOs can foster a culture of innovation. Some favourite parts include tips for herding cats, autonomous chaos and leveraging noise as a catalyst for change 😺 It was great to see how organisations from the University of Surrey, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, Ocado Group, Thomson Reuters and many others are progressing their organisations. In a true Elsewhen fashion, we had to finish with a well-rounded demo by Vahid Panjganj. Really nice evening and just a gentle reminder - we’re hiring.

I just completed a 3-month service design project with the consultancy Elsewhen and I am truly impressed by their rigour, resourcefulness and flexibility. Elsewhen collaborated with my team remotely on the enhancement of a strategically significant proposition for Techcombank. Their robust holistic approach combined with creative insight gathering techniques resulted in a detailed picture of the E2E service, matching customer journey pain points with organisational KPIs and product roadmaps. From stakeholder interviews, hypotheses generation and comprehensive ethnographic research to as-is journey definition, benchmarking, a future-state journey ecosystem and actual design briefs for follow-up UX sprints - the diverge-converge methods energised and delivered. It was refreshing to collaborate with a smaller nimble digital consultancy whose can-do attitude turned constraints into opportunities. Big thank you to Leon Gauhman, Nadav Mordechai, Sarah Laing Tom Belt Matt Flynn and to our own Hanh Nguyen for the seamless execution of a complex piece of ethographic research.
