Access Description: Access to the southeastern and southern portions of the property is via a network of Domtar logging roads beginning approximately 70 km south near the town of White River. The road network begins with Domtar Road 100 at the Domtar Mill on Highway 17 and leads north to Domtar Roads 135, 400, 403, 403-130, and 403-134, respectively.



Exploration History

1984: Golden Rule Resources Ltd. flew airborne magnetometer, EM, resistivity, and VLF-EM surveys. 1989: Noranda Exploration Co. Ltd. flew helicopter-borne magnetometer and EM surveys. 1998: J. Ternowesky, W.L Cox, and L. Halverson staked 7 claims along the southeastern margin of the Bulldozer Mafic-Ultramafic Complex. 1999: The Bulldozer Occurrence and several other sulphide occurrences were discovered during an exploration program that included linecutting, ground magnetometer and VLF-EM surveys, and limited prospecting. Gryphon Metals Corporation optioned the property a short time later and staked another 12 claims to the west of the existing claims. 2000: Gryphon completed a magnetometer survey. Gryphon subsequently optioned the property to Freewest Resources Canada Inc. who then completed prospecting and geological mapping. 2005: North American Palladium Ltd. flew a VTEM geophysical survey.

Geology Comments

Mar 29, 2016 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Bulldozer Occurrence is located near the northern margins of the large Black-Pic Batholith of the eastern Wawa Subprovince, Superior Structural Province. The rocks within this portion of the Subprovince have not yet been mapped by the OGS or GSC. The composite Black-Pic Batholith is a foliated to massive, tonalitic to granodioritic structural dome intruded by late gabbro, diorite, granite, and granodioritic complexes and plutons. It is characterized by a low to moderate intensity, relatively uniform magnetic signature and is bound by the moderately to strongly magnetic Manitouwadge-Hornpayne greenstone belt to the north; the variably magnetic, eastern Schreiber-Hemlo greenstone belt and the roughly circular, very strongly magnetic Coldwell Alkaline Complex to the south, and the Dayohessarah-Kabinakagami greenstone belt to the east. The Bulldozer Mafic-Ultramafic Complex is readily visible on airborne magnetic maps as a large (10 x 7 km), strong, elliptical anomaly with a north-trending, western apophysis. A strong northeast-trending, linear anomaly cross-cuts and apparently offsets the western portions of the Bulldozer anomaly and probably represents a thick diabase dyke or cluster of several narrower dykes occupying a pre-existing structure. All rock-tyes in the region are cross-cut by numerous, moderate to strong, linear, magnetic anomalies generally representing Paleo-Proterozoic, quartz and locally olivine diabase dykes of the NW-trending Matachewan (2454 Ma) and NE-trending Marathon (2170) swarms. Many of these dykes occupy pre-existing faults (AFRI 42C14NW2005).

Mineralization Comments

Mar 29, 2016 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Bulldozer Occurrence consists of up to 30% disseminated to stringered, locally net-textured chalcopyrite and pyrite occurring within northwest-striking gabbro and hornblendite dykes or layers. It occurs within a sheared, 1 to 3 m thick gabbro dyke, with an exposed length of approximately 16 m. The mineralization occurs within, or possibly slightly crosscuts, locally feldspathic, hornblende-oikocrystic, hornblende clinopyroxenite to hornblendite containing pale-green saussuritized plagioclase feldspars. Disseminated sulphides were observed within other outcrops over several hundred metres of strike-length. The sulphides within the main showing may be remobilized; however, the wider-spread, disseminated nature of the sulphides observed along strike is suggestive of a primary magmatic source for the bulk of the mineralization. A short time after the occurrence was discovered (May 1999) Gryphon Metals Corp. took 8 samples (Figure 6) which graded up to 3.43% Cu, 1162 ppm Ni, 2400 ppm Co, 384 ppb Pd, 76 ppb Pt, and 52 ppb Au. A short time later the Thunder Bay South Resident Geologist's Office (Ontario Geological Survey) took 6 samples that contained up to 2.11% Cu, 971 ppm Ni, 170 ppb Pd, and 71 ppb Pt. Freewest took 3 sequences of chip samples across the mineralized zone and obtained from 1726 to 6548 ppm Cu, 112 to 1219 ppm Ni, 28 to 221 ppb Pd, 18 to 16 ppb Pt, and less than 5 to 28 ppb Au (AFRI 42C14NW2005). Sample 470471 returned 9050 ppm Cu and 495ppm Ni from a pyroxenite with 10% pyrrhotite and pyrite (Assessment report 20000018199).
