Santa Cruz, California--(Newsfile Corp. - October 27, 2020) - California's wildfire season has brought unprecedented devastation and loss to so many this year. In Santa Cruz, the CZU Lightning Complex Fire destroyed more than 900 homes and at its most ferocious, required the evacuation of tens of thousands of people.

At KindPeoples, the largest cannabis retailer in Santa Cruz County, we have been heartened by the tremendous acts of bravery shown by firefighters and first responders and shared in the heartache of the individuals and families impacted by the wildfires.

"We are grateful to the firefighters who worked tirelessly to contain the wildfires in Santa Cruz and are continuing the dangerous work at hotspots throughout our state," said Khalil Moutawakkil, KindPeoples Co-CEO. "After seven months of living through a pandemic and then confronting the fury of wildfires, we knew we had to do our part in supporting local evacuees and the organizations that are helping the firefighters and localities impacted by fires across California."

During the month of September, in addition to a company donation that went to local charities supporting Santa Cruz County residents impacted by the CZU Lightning Complex Fire, KindPeoples offered a 25% off store-wide discount to local evacuees. More than 700 individuals redeemed the discount, amounting to $28,730 in customer savings.

Starting Thursday, October 1, when shoppers purchase select items from the following brands, a portion of the sale will be donated to organizations that support restoration and wildfire education, firefighters and communities impacted by the wildfires locally and throughout California.

Participating brands include: Heavy Hitters, Dollar Dose, Kanha Treats, Chemistry, Big Pete's Treats, Buddies, Sensi Chews, Yummi Karma, Papa & Barkley, and High Gorgeous.

Products that are a part of the program are identified by a "Fire Relief" sticker.

"We are so honored to be a part of KindPeoples Fire Relief Program. Bringing cannabis brands together for a collective goal is what it's all about, and we are excited to see what an impact we can make together," said Kirstie Price, regional manager for Heavy Hitters. "The Santa Cruz community has given us so much over the years, this initiative is one of a handful of small steps we are taking to offer a little something back. We are thankful that our local team members have not been directly impacted by the wildfires."
