Dassai Announces Collaboration with Artist Kevin Abosch

London, United Kingdom--(Newsfile Corp. - June 22, 2022) - Celebrating a crossroads of both tradition and technology, Irish contemporary artist Kevin Abosch has partnered with premium Japanese sake producer Asahi Shuzo in a unique collaboration. Creating a series of artworks, collectors will be given an opportunity to also claim bottles of a limited, exclusive, and premium Dassai product being produced for the initiative.

The collaboration will see Kevin Abosch create a collection of 1989 unique and original 1 of 1 artworks, the result of the artist's engagement with millions of data-points related to both the Dassai sake brewing process and Asahi Shuzo's values. Inspired by Abosch's art, Asahi Shuzo will in turn create a limited, corresponding run of this specially brewed premium sake. Previous limited editions from the brand have been highly sought after, one bottle fetching 843,750 yen ($8,026) at auction in Hong Kong.

Along with the works of art, these limited-edition bottles will be shipped to collectors worldwide.

However, technology alone cannot produce great sake. Where many of their competitors employ mass automation in their production processes, Asahi Shuzo understand the importance of craft and the human touch. Their sake is produced in small batches to maintain quality and much of the brewing process is still done by hand, even the washing of the rice and the separating of every grain prior to fermentation. About Kevin Abosch

Kevin Abosch, born in 1969 in Los Angeles, is an Irish conceptual artist known for his works in photography, sculpture, and film. Abosch's work addresses the nature of identity and value by posing ontological questions and responding to sociologic dilemmas. His work has been exhibited throughout the world, often in civic spaces, including The Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg, The National Museum of China, The National Gallery of Ireland, Jeu de Paume (Paris), The Irish Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina, The Bogotá Museum of Modern Art, ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medien) and Dublin Airport.

Dassai is a series of sake produced by Asahi Shuzo, a brewery based in Yamaguchi Prefecture in the south of Honshu, Japan's main island. The name 'Dassai' reflects the ancient name for this region of Japan. The brewery's philosophy is founded on avoiding complacency to ensure that existing techniques are constantly reformed and revolutionized Asahi Shuzo pride themselves on brewing sake year-round - something often unheard of in the sake industry - using only the finest quality Yamada Nishiki rice across their sake range. Dassai is made using a careful combination of tradition and cutting-edge technology.
