Customers in the U.S. are seeing their utility bills increase more, averaging nearly $300 per month as of March this year – up roughly 25% compared with 2019, due in part to hotter temperatures and extreme weather. With this continued pace of increase in cost from utility bills, keeping costs down is key for consumers while utilities work to keep the grid reliable and resilient – and Tantalus has solutions for this.   Tantalus recently announced a partnership with GE Appliances and Savant Power that addresses this need. Bolivar Energy Authority (BEA) has selected Tantalus for the Tantalus Grid Modernization Platform (TGMP) and the TRUSense Fiber Gateway. Leveraging TRUSense to harness the full capabilities of BEA’s advanced fiber network deployed in partnership with Irby Utilities, TGMP will replace an existing AMI solution in support of BEA’s grid modernization initiatives. “We wanted to have a stronger, faster, and more reliable AMI network and an ability to adopt advanced applications through the life of this deployment. With the TRUSense Gateway, Tantalus was the only vendor we found that could fully leverage our fiber network, at and behind the meter, to provide us with the best opportunity to improve the support we provide to our community,” says Steve Herriman, Purchasing and IT Manager, BEA. Tantalus and United Illuminating (UI) are running a new pilot program that will see UI targeting to control up to 7 kilowatts of power per participating home while also delivering benefits to their customers, powered by Tantalus' TRUSense Gateway. The pilot is a part of the first round of the Innovative Energy Solutions (IES) Program - designed and led by the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA). This pilot is also part of a larger consortium of industry-leading technology providers, academic institutions and research centers, including GE Appliances, a Haier company, Savant Systems, the University of Connecticut’s Eversource Energy Center, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Threshold.
