The creative works were made under the guidance of Aseema, which operates three municipal schools in Mumbai and a school built by Aseema in a remote tribal region. Aseema means “limitless” in Sanskrit and reflects a belief in every child’s limitless potential. Aseema provides high-quality education and medical care to India’s poorest. The auction was conceived as a way for Friends of Aseema to raise money and awareness to serve its mission of supporting underprivileged children living in India. Due to COVID-19, those needs have increased as the children and their families have spent months in lockdown. The pandemic has necessitated several rounds of food distribution for the benefit of more than 9,900 individuals.

The artwork of children in India will bring a new level of physical and spiritual healing by providing relief for indigent families. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to Friends of Aseema for use in supporting these children and their families.

“We are delighted to be able to bring the depth and technology of Artrepreneur to support such a worthy cause. COVID-19 has generated more pressing needs around the world but especially for the poorest among us. Artrepreneur holds the belief that every artist – no matter how young or old – can achieve success when they have access to the right resources,” says Grace Cho, Founder and CEO of Artrepreneur.

“We are so grateful to Artrepreneur for supporting our efforts with this auction,” says Christine Biancheria, President of Friends of Aseema, an all-volunteer organization. “You can sustain this endeavor by participating in this auction.”

About Friends of Aseema

Friends of Aseema is a U.S. nonprofit corporation dedicated to helping the Aseema Charitable Trust in India. Aseema means “limitless” in Sanskrit and reflects the belief in every child’s limitless potential. The Aseema Charitable Trust is devoted to giving the best education possible to the most marginalized and underprivileged children it can reach. Directly educating 2,700 children per year, Aseema functions on a lean annual budget for what it must accomplish, with only 7% of funds spent on administration expenses. With supplemental support from Friends of Aseema, Aseema can take its mission to serve these children even further.

Twenty years since its founding, Aseema has grown from a borrowed classroom for a handful of slum and street children to fully managing three public schools in Mumbai serving only poverty-stricken children. In addition, Aseema built and operates a school in a tribal region northeast of the city. Although Aseema’s students live in extreme poverty, they now academically outpace their counterparts in the region’s private and other public schools.

Aseema’s child-centered program demonstrates that education infused with understanding and flexibility of thought can permit a child to rise above even the direst of circumstances. It is a jewel in the world and a model for change anywhere. Learn more at www.friendsofaseema.org.
